Enterprise Task 2 - Where are they? How will they find me?

Ideally I would like to work in a big city like London where there are many businesses and opportunities that would enable me to have a fairly good range of choice.
I would also be keen on working in some of the northern cities like Manchester and Sheffield as I have seen a lot of brilliant design come out of these areas, such as 'The Designers Republic'.

Some of the potential employees that I will be listing are all in the music industry. This means that they will be producing print based media like album covers and promotional material such as leaflets, flyer's and posters. They will also no doubt be looking for people to design logos and people who have some knowledge of website design.

Working for a company in the music industry would interest me a great deal because I think they would need many different graphic designers for many different aspects of design work and not just specialist designers.

Political Factors

I think the main political factors surrounding the music industry when it comes to design are print costs and material costs. People all over the world these days have become a lot more environmentally conscious and would like to see a change in the materials and inks that are used to create such things as posters and record covers.
Having less packaging that contains musical format items such as C.D's is always a good way to start. Changing the inks that are used to print on mass production posters to promote bands and events is another really good way to reduce damage done to the environment.
Also printing and packaging items in more bio-degradable materials such and card board or recycled paper would also help.

Economical Factors

The economy is something that will effect every single business on the planet, some at different times and some to different extents.
A huge factor that ha effected the music industry is the recession. This latest in economic slumps has meant that people have to be more tight with they're cash income meaning they cannot spend money on luxury items such as music.
There are various different ways of attracting new customers and getting existing customers keep buying.  This would all depend on the size of the company and how well they were already established, for example it would be unwise for virgin to change they're company name as they are already recognized massively all round the world, however it may be wise for a small local record shop to have a re brand and then spend some money promoting the image on a smaller local scale.

Social Factors

social factors, especially in todays fast pace moving world are things that need to be very carefully considered if you are a graphic designer. As a designer it should be part of your job to keep up to date with any changing social trends as these are the things that will effect the way you design and how you will design.
Record labels will of course be extremely concerned at how their business is being viewed by the general public as music is mostly bought by the individual wishing to obtain a certain image.
With music there are thousands and thousands of labels that all cater for thousands of different genres for billions of people around the world. As a designer it is important to know who they're target audience is so that you can design to the appropriate style, whether this is the music itself or the image it creates.

Technological factors

Again technology is something that is always changing in the modern world. It is important to change and adapt to avoid being left behind or overtaken by other people. One of the biggest technological factors changing the musical world is how music is distributed and on what format it is distributed on.

Up until the early 1990's music was most commonly distributed on 12 inch vinyl. This format was good for designers as it allowed them to create fairly large scale pieces of design that were easily noticeable. As time went by and technology changed, the formats of music became smaller. Designers were now designing on smaller scales which meant that designs had to be considered differently.
In todays world the most common form of music format is MP3. This has resulted in massive change in the way designers design for music. Instead of having a hard copy of something that you can purchase in a shop, designs have become digital, designed for screen for when people download their music from sites like itunes and Napster.
